Compressed Domain Robust Video Watermarking

Recently, video watermarking has become an important research issue due to increase in threats of video piracy, authentication, and ownership integrity. In this paper, we propose a new secure and robust watermarking method for H.264 compressed video stream with a blind extraction process. Most authors prefer embedding in I-frames because I-frames are crucial for video signal. However, the embedding error propagates in the remaining uncoded blocks of that I-frame (intra prediction)and P-frames and B-frames (inter prediction)in that GOP. This significantly degrades the visual quality of the watermarked video. While embedding in P-frames, the embedding error propagates only in uncoded P-frames and B-frames in that GOP. Our method embeds invisible watermark bits into P-frames for better visual quality. Selection of appropriate blocks based on spatio-temporal characteristics, robust embedding algorithm, and use of a pseudo-random key enhances the robustness and the security of our method. It is experimentally shown that the proposed method has outperformed most of the existing schemes w.r.t. visual quality, bit increase rate, and robustness against different attacks.
